The Thoronet Abbey

Along with its 'sister houses' at Silvacane and Sénanque, The Abbey of Le Thoronet is one of the three wonders of Cistercian architecture in Provence. Sainte Roseline Chapel

This place of worship is a real work of art, but above all it is a renowned pilgrimage site. Since 1329 it has harboured the venerated saint's body, which is dressed in priestly clothes and laid to rest in a glass case. Ancient perched village (alt.2774 feet) Gourdon sits on the edge of a rocky spur above the Loup River. The village is full of little boutiques. Old 9th century fortress. Guided visit of the candy factory Florian (typical speciality of the region). Drive along the Loup River through the countryside to discover some places that are a heaven of quietness.

Tourrettes-sur-Loup

Tourrettes is a picturesque medieval village nets on a very rocky hill separating two deep valleys. Stroll in the narrow streets of the city of the violets to see the tiny fashioned shops with orginal artists and craftsmen productions.

The natural beauty remains in the old town with the ramparts along the sea and the arched wall along the marina. There are plenty of little streets to explore. Marvel at the worlds largest yachts in the Port Vauban and the largest marina in the French mediterranean.

Cannes

Discover the old Casino, the famous Htel de Paris and Caf de Paris, the beautiful gardens, and De-luxe boutiques. Drive on the Monaco world-famous race-track. Drive by the low coast road (basse corniche) back to Nice.

We suggest you start your day in Versailles with a guided morning visit of the Royal Apartments. This will be followed by a walk around the Palace’s park, passing through some of the “Groves” (summer) or a horse carriage ride (winter). Lunch is taken in the restaurant “la Flottille” which faces the Grand Canal.

The afternoon will continue with a guided visit of the Trianon (vast mansion-style lodges where Louis XV and Louis XVI liked to work and retire from court life) and a discovery tour of Queen’s hamlet (where from 1783 Marie Antoinette played as a shepherdess).

Some history :

• Louis XIII’s hunting lodge was converted and enlarged by his son Louis XIV into the seat of the court and the government of France from 1682.
• New apartments were added to the Château in the 18th century under orders of Louis XV and Louis XVI.
• The royal family was forced to abandon Versailles on October 6, 1789 after the first days of the French Revolution.
• In 1837, the king Louis-Philippe inaugurated in the Château the Museum devoted to « all the glories of France ».

Special Fountains Show Programme

In addition to the usual programme we suggest that you wander around the groves and pools where the magnificent display of fountains reveals the skill and artistry of three centuries of French garden design and engineering. The display is accompanied by music from o the famous composers from the court of Louis XIV.
